If you’ve ever visited the Campal Swimming Pool, the presence of Swimming Coach Thomas Jose is undoubtedly unforgettable. You can spot him easily, clad in track pants, clutching a stopwatch in one hand, and sporting a whistle around his neck. He paces back and forth along the poolside while his dedicated trainees carry out their workouts. The echoes of his shouts, the sharp sound of the whistle, the authoritative “take your mark” commands—all underscore his unwavering dedication to his craft. Swimming isn’t just his profession; it’s his passion. For those who are yet to learn about this remarkable coach, here’s a brief introduction.
Mr. Thomas Jose is a retired Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach for the Goa State. An ex-airforceman, he holds a swimming degree from the prestigious National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala, in addition to several certifications from the World Swimming Body, FINA. With over three decades of experience in teaching, training, and coaching children in swimming, Coach Jose’s impact on Goa’s swimming community has been nothing short of exceptional. Under his expert guidance, Goa’s swimmers have clinched numerous medals and accolades, not just for the state but also for the country. Some of his notable trainees who have proudly represented India include Tashina Singh, Nisha Madgavkar, and Talasha Prabhu.
Coach Jose is renowned for being a firm but fair taskmaster, instilling discipline and dedication in all his trainees.
